“technically gifted without ever overplaying…imaginative while retaining a purpose.” –Prog Magazine
Fen emerged in 1998 from the mountain shadows of Nelson, British Columbia and began a long dark road from obscurity. Fifteen years and five albums later, the band has established itself in the progressive rock/metal psyche, having sold music in more than fifteen countries and connected with one of the leading artists in the genre.
Fen’s first break occurred in 2010 when they were invited to join the roster of California-based label, Ripple music. The band’s next release, Trails Out Of Gloom garnered relentlessly positive reviews from bloggers and print magazines internationally, including the UK’s Classic Rock magazine and the US authority on prog, Progressions Magazine, which gave the album a rare 16 out of 16 score. To follow up this attention, in May 2011, the management of UK/Israeli prog veterans Blackfield invited Fen to open for them at Vancouver’s Rickshaw Theatre. Breakthroughs have continued for Fen, recipient of two FACTOR demo awards and a CIRAA groundbreaker grant. Their songs have been placed on HGTV, Animal Planet, and most recently on DeadGrind, a zombie-killing video game for smart phones that has been downloaded over 100,000 times. In April 2013 the band performed at the World Ski and Snowboard Festival in Whistler. Fen is currently writing and recording demos for their sixth studio album.
